The critically acclaimed platformer for the Wii U Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is finally coming to the Switch and join Nintendo's line-up of relaunched games. Aside from the minor visual bump, the upcoming game also features faster loading times compared to the original game. It also features a new easy mode where players can control Funky Kong and other than that, the game remains the same. With that being said, let's take a quick look at what some of the industry's critics are saying about the game.
"Tropical Freeze isn't a heavy-hitter from Nintendo in the same way Breath of the Wild or Super Mario Odyssey are, but it's a fantastic platformer that's bursting with creativity and expertly designed challenges." Gamespot 9/10
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is currently doing great based on the published reviews. The game has a Metascore of 86/100 made up of 33 positives and 3 mixed reactions from 36 critics. The Wii U version on the other hand, also got a decent score of 83/100 made up of 65 positives and 12 mixed reactions from 77 critics.
"The Switch version manages to take just enough of an edge off a punishing game to let the fun platforming outshine its difficulty." IGN 9/10
Overall, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze may only have a couple of visual tweaks and just a bit of additional content but it does not in any way remove the fact that this a fun and challenging platformer. The original game was already great and the minor tweaks, adjustments, and features are already enough to make the game shine again on a new platform.
