Production of physical games for Sony's iconic handheld PlayStation Vita console is set to end next year. The information was shared by Kotaku who first got hold of the information thru an email from a spokesperson from Sony. It was mentioned that Sony's European and American branches are planning to end all PS Vita GameCard production by close of the fiscal year 2018 which is on March 31, 2018.
The PlayStation Vita launched in 2011 in Japan with 26 physical game titles and in the west in 2012 with 25 titles. Sales of the physical games for the console remains strong in Japan which may not be the case in other regions. This could also be a sign that Sony might soon discontinue the production of the console or the company is planning to reveal a newer version of the console that will utilize a different media format for its physical games. Check out the launch trailer of the console below and stay tuned for more gaming news and updates.
