The fourth trailer for Death Stranding was revealed during the E3 2018 PlayStation Showcase featuring the highly-anticipated gameplay footage of what could be Hideo Kojima's next masterpiece. The new footage features the main protagonist Sam as he ventures into the various landscapes in the game delivering- various types of package. Two new mysterious characters represented by Lindsay Wagner and Léa Seydoux are also introduced, each of whom opens another set of questions dragging the audience deeper into the rabbit hole.
"We really wanted to make something that was different. That was out-of-the-box, and Death Stranding was the answer to this."
The past trailers of the game already spawned multiple theories online from Hideo's massive fanbase. Hideo Kojima's method of disseminating the various details of Death Stranding can be considered as his own unique way of the inception of what he calls "Strand Concept".
"When we revealed the first teaser, I said that “the game has already begun – a game of unravelling the mysteries of what kind of game Death Stranding will become”.
Believe him when he says that this is going to be something different or something unique since . his out-of-the-box creation could become the foundation of an entirely new genre or completely define how open-world games are created.
"I want to deliver something for people around the world that transcends generations. I want all people to experience the entertainment medium of games, not only gamers, but fans of film, novels, comics, music and art."
Compared to the trailers of other open-world titles, the ones for Death Stranding are not that great, as these videos depict sadness, suffering, death, and is often set in a gloomy, lonely, and dark environments. But the purpose of these trailers is to connect to the audience. This is why each trailer packs enough intrigue and mystery to keep the gaming community busy analyzing, formulating and discussing their own theories about the game. Hideo Kojima has so much respect in the intelligence of his audience, and this is why he gets so much love in return.
