The highly acclaimed Action RPG from Platinum Games Nier Automata was recently announced for the Xbox One and Xbox One X in this year's E3. Coming to the world's most powerful console next week, tech experts from Digital Foundry performed an initial in-depth look at the upcoming port based on the game's E3 2018 demo.
Digital Foundry's initial analysis shows that Nier Automata running on the Xbox One X presents a cleaner image compared to the PlayStation 4 PRO version of the game. Though this may be the case, the goal of the analysis is to find out whether the port which is listed to feature a 4K ultra HD experience will live up to its promise and if the game will flawlessly run on 60 fps.
A side by side comparison between both version still shows a significant frame drop in some of the game's highly demanding scenes. Based on the analysis Xbox One X may deliver a sharper and crisper image which means that enhancements were done to the port, however, with the Xbox One X presented in a higher resolution means that a drop in performance is likely to appear in the Xbox One X due to its 4K resolution. Nevertheless, despite this minor setbacks, the Xbox One X version still delivers a much greater experience and a much higher performance compared to the PRO version.
