Anthem has been one of the highlighted titles during EA's E3 2018 press conference showcasing its unique "our world, my story" concept. An overview pertaining to the game's environment and gameplay mechanics were revealed during the event. Players take the role of a Freelancer skilled to pilot the exosuits called Javelins. There are four types of Javelins that Freelancers can access in the game, one of which is the Ranger designed for all-around combat, the Colossus whom as the name suggests is all about heavy weapons and devastation, then there's the elemental Javelin Storm, and the Interceptor which is designed for speed.
The game's Executive Producer Mark Darrah shared some new details through his Twitter page, one of which is that players can create multiple Freelancers in the game using the same account but the limit was never disclosed. Each Javelin can be unlocked through missions. The issue of gender was also brought up during the discussion in which Mark Darrah politely replied to the following; "We are not doing gender variations on the Javelins. We went back and forth on this one". A follow-up question about previously shared information on the same topic was also asked to which he replied "That may be true. We locked this down just recently so I may have provided different info before".
In terms of loot boxes, the upcoming game will be free of the pay-to-win mechanics featured in some of EA's previous titles, vanity and cosmetic items are the only premium goods that can be purchased using real-world currency. If all goes well, Anthem could provide EA with the opportunity to prove to the video game community that they are done with the old ways. Anthem is scheduled to launch on February 22, 2019.
