In less than 12 months after getting into the now saturated Battle Royale hype, Epic Game's Fortnite was able to collect over a billion dollars from in-game purchases across all platforms(mobile, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC). As a result, Epic's Unreal Engine Marketplace managed to increase the revenue earned by creators from the usual 70% to the current 88%. All thanks to a game which was developed in just two months.
Compared to PUBG, Fortnite's adaptation of the existing free to play mechanics is considered as one of the major contributors to its massive success. Though PUBG literally established and popularized the Battle Royale genre, it was Fortnite that made it accessible to everyone. Not only that, Fortnite's constant updates, events, gimmicks, and improvements are key factors not only in retaining its massive community but attracting new ones as well.
