Rockstar's latest offering to the gaming populace Red Dead Redemption 2
has taken the top spot of Metacritic's Best Reviewed Game of All Time charts for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Rockstar's latest entry to their highly acclaimed Red Dead Series boasts an impressive 97 Metascore average for the PS4 version from 78 critics and an average Metascore of 98 for the Xbox One from 29 critics.
"There can be no doubt that this is a landmark game. It is a new high water-mark for lifelike video game worlds, certainly, but that world is also home to a narrative portrait of the wild west that is unexpectedly sombre and not afraid to take its time."- The Guardian 5/5 Stars
Technically RDR2 and GTA V have the same average for the PS4, however, the GTA V average was from 66 critics which less compared to RDR2. Impressive as it may seem, this score was somewhat expected for such a big title, however, the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2 may also hint the launch or perhaps announcement of the next PlayStation Console, which could probably happen sooner than expected.
Red Dead Redemption 2 and the Next PlayStation Console
First and foremost, it's safe to say that part of what made Red Dead Redemption 2 a huge success is the 8-year release gap from its predecessor. The success of GTA V may also have played a big influence on the game's release and may also serve as a hint of the release of the next PlayStation console.
This is due to the fact that Red Dead Redemption 2 seems to follow the same launch tactics Rockstar used for GTA V also a highly anticipated title launched for the PS3 at the dawn of the PlayStation 4's launch, this method made the GTA V a success in both the PS3 and the PS4, thus, probably earned Rockstar more revenue from a single title compared to their previous releases. So why not apply the same method for Red Dead Redemption 2?
Though this is just purely speculation, the announcement for the next PlayStation console may happen later this year or in the first quarter of 2019, while the release of the next Grand Theft Auto title will probably depend on the success of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2 online, which from the looks of it could be in the next five years or at the dawn of yet another console launch.
