Capcom's remake of the second installment to their highly acclaimed Resident Evil series is finally out in the open and just like its predecessors, it's getting much of the attention it deserves. Resident Evil 2
is the second game in the series powered by the iconic RE Engine which debuted in Resident Evil 7, and for those who were able to get a first-hand experience of the latter should already know what to expect in the remake. For those, however, who are new to the series and somehow is looking for a second opinion about the game, below are comments from some of the critics pertaining to their experience in the game.
For veterans who remember the original (and I reviewed it at the time), it is an unmissable nostalgic treat. For those who don’t know their T-Viruses from their Code Veronicas, the experience is easily vivid and entertaining enough to stand on its own merits. This is horror game design as true craft. - The Guardian 5/5 Stars
Resident Evil 2 is currently the best-reviewed game of the year for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Boasting a 93/100 Metascore for the PS4 made up of 62 positive and 1 mixed feedback from 63 critics along with a solid 9.2/10 user score. For the Xbox One, the game has managed to get an impressive 93/100 with 16 positive feedback from 16 critics. PC critics, on the other hand, gave the game a solid 88/100 made up of 14 positive feedback from 14 critics.
Capcom has not only recreated Resident Evil 2 but entirely redesigned it to be a bigger and more robust horror experience. The sense of dread and tension they created is unwavering throughout each of the six-hour campaigns. The choices they made only help expand upon the characters and the overall universe, along with making the gameplay a little easier for more people to survive this unforgiving world. - Hardcore Gamer 4.5/5
Speaking of reviews, the recent title is not without its controversies. Part of which is the one that involves the IGN review which unfortunately provided inaccurate details about the game. Making it look like that the reviewer never played the entire game and just made speculations about the experience (check the video below for more details). IGN's editor has long since corrected the error.
Editor's Note: This review has been updated to correct a factual error regarding the way you unlock the 2nd Game mode, and as a result, the score has been increased from 8.8 to 9.0. We regret the error and really like Resident Evil 2.]-IGN 8.8 changed to 9.0
All in all, for those who were able to experience the original version of the game, will find the remake was done with utmost care. Its safe to say that Capcom has managed to make their masterpiece even better. In other words, Capcom has done an excellent job integrating new elements in the game's core structure. Its safe to say that Resident Evil 2 has once again proven itself to be the best installment in the entire series. Check out the videos below and stay tuned for more gaming news and updates.
