Epic Store has been a controversial digital video game storefront since its inception last year. The platform has been gaining a lot of negative reaction due to its "timed exclusivity"
deals for some of the titles previously announced for STEAM. The store's influence has even extended up to Kickstarter games to which backers who were promised a STEAM version of a certain game (Outer Wilds)
were suddenly pushed aside in exchange for exclusivity. With that said, just as you thought that the store's influence is rock-solid, multiple titles have backed out from the store's "timed exclusivity"
deals. One of which is Borderlands 3
which is no longer available in the platform.
One of the main reason pointed out for this sudden shift is the "EPIC Mega Sale.
" For those not familiar with the promotion, the sale offers $10 off for every purchase over $15. Listing from publishers who are hesitant or unwilling to participate in the sale are eventually removed from the store. Another notable title which was removed from the store is the upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2.
Part of what makes the publishers shy out from the sale is that a pre-launch sale is not a very good idea compared to a post-launch offer as this will greatly affect the sales performance of the product.
